Brian Janning, vice president of operations, was featured in the March 1 Omaha edition of Strictly Business. Brian was one of six individuals featured in the River City Six segment of the publication. Below is an excerpt from the article so our audience can get to know an essential member of the STS leadership team.

Meet, Brian Janning.

How did you get started in the business?  I started with STS working in R&D on product design. I moved into managem

ent six months later and have held various operational roles over my 31+ years with the
company.

What has been your most important achievement professionally? Getting to a position in the company where I can work with virtually everyone in the company is incredibly satisfying to me. We have a talented team of great people that I enjoy working with each day.

What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? The month I finished my two-year degree to become an electrician I needed back surgery. This made me question my construction based career decision, and I took another path to electronics/computers. It actually worked out well in hindsight.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off?  Playing golf with my wife on one of Nebraska’s great golf courses. Driving to some of the courses outside of Omaha is part of the adventure.

Who inspires you? My family and friends. Sorry to pick such a large group but I get inspirational things from so many people every day. You just need to take the time to notice them.

What is your favorite quote or the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? “Run toward change, not away from it.” This is from an anonymous co-worker who had been with the company a very long time.

If you had a theme song, what would it be?  “You’ve Got Another Thing Comin’” by Judas Priest.

What is your greatest talent that you don’t utilize in your daily work life?  Tasting/enjoying wine, for obvious reasons.

If you could choose any other profession to be successful in, what would it be? A standup comedian. Being introverted and not very funny has held me back.
