Technology has introduced online proctoring services which have allowed academia as well as institutions of all shapes and sizes to introduce programs and testing online. Online technologies have enabled institutions to greatly increase their reach and flexibility to meet their specific needs. This increased reach brings great responsibility for proctoring services to protect the integrity of online testing programs.

Three types of proctoring services and responsibilities

1.  In-person Proctoring Services

  • In a designated testing center at a specific day and time, a live proctor oversees the test and test takers.
  • The proctoring service provider has a trained proctor to ensure candidates authentication and prevent any form of cheating.
  • A proctor has the ability to monitor a number of candidates at the same time.

2.  Live Remote Proctoring Services

  • A qualified proctor monitors the candidates’ audio, video and screen share in real-time.
  • The proctoring service provider has a trained proctor to ensure candidates authentication and prevent any form of cheating.
  • A proctor has the ability to monitor a number of candidates at the same time.
  • Live remote proctoring gives institutions the freedom and flexibility of having the test takers and proctors be far apart and still ensuring the integrity of their programs.

3.  Recorded Proctoring Services

  • Instead of having a live proctor monitoring candidates feeds in real-time, candidates audio, video and screen are recorded during testing.
  • A proctor can review and playback recording at significantly faster speeds to identify any suspicious activity.
  • This model allows for even greater flexibility as candidates can take the test when it fits within their schedules.

Scantron’s technology offers clients the next level of proctoring.  Other security features also include:

  • Copy and paste options are blocked.
  • Limiting candidate logins to specific IP addresses.
  • Freezing screens to not allow candidates from accessing other applications or windows.
