Scantron Corporation announced the launch of its new service, Scantron+Critical Mail™. The solution is turnkey, providing one-stop printing, personalizing, mailing, and expedited trackable delivery of time-sensitive customer letters and notices. The result of a partnership of Scantron, the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) and DYMO Endicia, Scantron+Critical Mail is fully-automated, reducing printing and postal costs for customers of Critical Mail™, the new delivery service of the USPS.

“We wanted to provide our customers greater control in total tracking − from start to final delivery − of important time-sensitive communications like recall notices and financial statements,” said Scantron President John Lawler. “Scantron+Critical Mail™ expands our capabilities through an automated system that ensures greater accuracy at a lower cost. Scantron customers can now know exactly where their mailings physically are from the time a communication order leaves their hands to when it is delivered into their customers’ hands.”

Organizations use expedited and trackable delivery services when they need fast delivery with signature control and tracking to the moment the mailing reaches the customer. Critical Mail, the new offering from the U.S. Postal Service, provides at a lower cost the same level of expedited delivery services as options like FedEx or UPS − including a one-to-three day delivery time, online package tracking and proof-of-delivery.

Scantron+Critical Mail enhances this delivery option with fully-automated printing and insertion capabilities of communications, plus an automated barcoding process in the addressing stage. Developed in conjunction with DYMO Endicia, the barcoding ensures greater speed and accuracy plus it enables end-to-end tracking of the mailed communications through a dedicated USPS web portal. According to Harry Whitehouse, Chief Technology Officer for DYMO Endicia, “By providing Scantron this technology we are able to fully access the new Critical Mail service from the U.S. Postal Service.”

Scantron+Critical Mail also pays testament to the collaborative attitude of the USPS. “This joint effort with Scantron on behalf of our shared customers demonstrates how the U.S. Postal Service can work with mail service providers to develop solutions that fully compete in the marketplace,” said Marc McCrery, USPS Manager of Specialty Shipping.

Scantron’s Vice President of Manufacturing/Print Operations Bruce Ables also weighed in on the merits of the partnership and resulting solution. “Scantron+Critical Mail lets us meet the needs of the market with a very affordable turnkey solution to create, print, address, mail in an expedited manner, then track to final delivery printed communications that are critical to reach our clients’ customers.”
