The Challenge
A nonprofit that offers credentialing programs tied to curriculum for K-12 math teachers approached Scantron to convert instructional content from a face-to-face classroom format to a blended one.
The Scantron Solution: Phase One
Initial conversations with the client made it clear to Scantron that converting the curriculum would actually create major changes to the client’s entire way of doing business.
Scantron encouraged them to first undergo a comprehensive needs assessment to better understand and prepare for the systemic changes that would occur. This phase included an evaluation of their organizational goals and resources, learner requirements, industry opportunities and constraints, as well as a review of their existing courses. Scantron also conducted a stakeholder survey to better understand the opinions and readiness of their instructors, members, and staff.
The Results
Scantron’s consultative report provided guidance in several areas:
- Instructors indicated very limited experience with virtual teaching, so extra attention was given to their training and preparation ahead of course roll out.
- Research on professional development for teachers guided program structure and learner engagement efforts.
Increased understanding of the efforts needed to create a comprehensive blended program led to a revised and more realistic timeline for better development.
The Scantron Solution: Phase Two
Upon completion of the initial consultation, the nonprofit decided to use the blended teaching format for a new program. For this phase, they needed recommendations on how the content could be designed using a blended approach and assistance in understanding the technology aspects needed for the virtual and online self-paced components.
Scantron reviewed the curriculum outline and materials, as well as the client’s online registration portal. This final report included recommendations for the overall course delivery structure and identified specific considerations for the client to address prior to final course development.
Overall, I would say this was one of the most successful blended learning experience I have ever had.”

The Scantron Solution: Phase Three
Scantron created a design scheme and prototype and developed eleven eLearning modules. The modules were developed as both Level 1 (click through content with static graphics, simple interactions, and quizzing) and Level 2 (use of more interactive exercises like scenario branching and increased use of audio/video components) using Captivate 9 authoring software.
The Results
Scantron delivered the eleven HTML5-compliant modules to the client on time.
